The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) issued in for circulation, 100 Rupee Currency Notes in a series of notes that started in 1991 on theme Sri Lanka Heritage.

Basic Details

Theme Sri Lanka Heritage
Colors :Front – Orange with dark brown and Yellow and Pink in background
:Back – Dark Brown with Orange with a bit of yellow and pink or later Orange with a bit of yellow, pink and green.
Front Landscape
Decorative Pot (Manjusawa) on right, Moonstone above decorate in lower center with Guard Stone on left with flower design above with bead loop on left.
Within a decorative border and center, Numeric 100 at upper two and lower right corners.
Back Portrait
Sigiriya Rock in background with, four women with baskets on their back picking tea leaves and a pair of parakeets on foliage. On upper panel Divided flower with leaves. Bead Loop top left of center of lower panel.
Within a decorative border, Numeric 100 at top left and Bottom right.
Sequrity Thread

Thin polyester thread of 1 mm width embedded in note. Micro-printing background pattern.
UV Printing: Front: Serial Numbers in Green. A rectangular highlight large numeric 20 upper left of center,and from 1995 to 2006 with additional UV printing of blanked decorate below in Greenish Yellow.
Back: Highlight of leaves of divided flower and decorative radial of background sky behind Sigiriya

Watermark Lion from national Flag standing facing left with sword in right paw, outlined darker than paper.

UV Printing

Special Varieties

The 1992-07-01 dated Rs 100 note has three Varieties. The Back of Note was changed from a Dark Brown to Orange for the second order with prefix between J/53 and J/73. The J in the Prefix was also made wider but was changed back in the third order.

The 1991-01-01 dated Rs 100 note did not have a DOT in the Thamil Thamil word Rupay which was written in error as ரூபாய and was corrected to ரூபாய் within the First Million Notes, after the error was noticed. There is also some low Serial numbers where the Dot seems to have been added by hand. All the notes in the comparison on left has J/1 Preffix. The No Dot variety is rare.
